Rocksteady Job Listing Hints at New Batman Game

A new job listing at Rocksteady has strongly hinted at the studio taking on a new Batman game next, adding validity to previous rumours from Bloomberg that the developer was going back to the Arkham games after the tragic misfire of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

The job listing at Rocksteady is seeking a game director to work on a new mystery project featuring third-person action, melee combat and open-world traversal. The description specifically mentions, “Strong design leadership and experience across multiple genres, particularly Third-Person Action, Melee Brawlers, and Open World Traversal games.”

Another job post seeking a production director indicates that the project is still in the early stages of development, which would make sense considering Rocksteady had focused its efforts on supporting Suicide Squad over the last year. In fact, support for the failed live-service game officially ended last month which was capped off by a round of layoffs at the studio, leaving many without jobs in the industry. This was already preceded by layoffs that happened in September 2024.

All signs seem to point to a new Batman game entering development, considering the description very accurately matches the gameplay for the Arkham games. On the off-chance that it’s another project, fans believe the studio could tackle another DC superhero like Superman, The Flash or Aquaman. A Wonder Woman game is already in development at Monolith Productions, the studio behind the Shadow of Mordor games – Monolith is apparently getting a bit of help from Gotham Knights studio Warner Bros. Montreal on the project.

A Batman game did release last year, though it was a virtual reality experience. Batman: Arkham Shadows ended up winning Best VR/AR Game at The Game Awards in 2024, though due to its limited availability, very few die-hard fans were able to play the VR title.
