Rumour: PS5 Dev Kit Patent Leaked – Designed in the Shape of a “V”

The PS5 dev kit has reportedly been leaked through a series of patented diagrams. While the diagrams are not real photos of the device, according to a Twitter user who also seems to be a game developer, the device is indeed real and he has one in his office. However, the tweet has since been deleted.

Rumours of the PS5 dev kits have been swirling around for some time now and a while back we heard reports Sony had already sent out the devices to developers around the world. The hardware is used to develop PS5 games and a crucial part of any game developer’s arsenal.

The leaked images come from Let’s Go Digital who found the patented diagrams. The hardware has been designed by Yusuhiro Ootori who also happens to be Sony’s technical director and the man who helped design the PS4’s look.

The diagram shows a giant “V” shaped console which is the Roman numeral for 5. On the sides, there are giant vents which could also just be a design choice over functionality. On the front, we see the USB ports as well as a disc drive and on the back TV outputs.

PS5 Dev Kit

There’s nothing about this PS5 dev kit that makes it seem unreal. It has all the ports and the dev kit-like design to make it quite believable. The PS4’s dev kit had a similar design to it too except for it being a rectangle box. You can see a photo of the PS4 dev kit below and it wasn’t pretty at all.

Does this mean the final PS5 design will look like this dev kit? Not really. We don’t even know if this dev kit it real but even if it is, Sony will design the consumer version of the console a little differently. We won’t know until the company reveals it next year and rumours all point to a February 2020 announcement.

For now, take this as a rumour as we don’t have enough to go on. It has been designed by the man behind the PS4 and it could be completely real but until we get confirmation or perhaps a few leaked photos, just take this with a grain of salt.
