Russo Brothers Avengers Movies MCU Marvel

Russo Brothers are Open to Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars Video Games

Marvel Studios is set to release Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars in 2026 and 2027 respectively, two big event movies culminating in all the build-up of the MCU multiverse saga. Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind Infinity War and Endgame, will be returning to direct the next two Avengers movies as well. However, the Russo brothers say they’re open to turning them into video games as well.

Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, the Russo brothers revealed that they’d be open to the idea of turning Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars into video games, or at least games partially based on them in some way. The duo then explained that they’re “creating new IP” right now, working with former Epic Games chief creative officer and Fortnite mastermind Donald Mustard.

The Russo brothers said during the interview:

“We would definitely be open to it. Right now, what we’re doing is creating new IP. We have a new partner at the company who is one of the greatest game developers in history, Donald Mustard, he’s the creator of Fortnite, and he’s come in now to work with us on building out what we think the future of storytelling could be, which is, some hybrid between linear and virtual and gaming. And we’re really interested in new ways to tell stories using technology.”

The Russo brothers didn’t go into too much detail about what they’re working on, though it sounds like a pretty interesting project. It’s also understandable why the gaming industry isn’t in a rush to make a new Avengers game right now, especially after Crystal Dynamics made Marvel’s Avengers. After launch, the game tanked with a low player count and eventually had its servers shut down. The closest thing we’re getting is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra from Uncharted’s Amy Hennig which just had its potential release window leaked.

Avengers: Doomsday releases on 1 May 2026 and stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
