Samsung Galaxy S20 Announced – South African Pricing, Release Date and Details

At the Samsung Unpacked 2020 event this evening, the smartphone maker announced the new range of Galaxy S20 devices including the S20 and S20 Ultra. Key features of these new devices includes a 108-megapixel camera, a 100-time zoom lens and a new display that takes advantage of a higher refresh rate.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 range spans across three new devices each with their own unique set of features. Of course, the top-of-the-range S20 Ultra 5G packs the most features but it is also the most expensive out of the range. Most notable is the new AMOLED 120Hz display which is found on the S20 range. The 6.7-inch display, found on the S20+ is taller than the other devices featuring a 20:9 aspect ratio and a 1440p+ resolution.

The S20 range also come with a new camera range including a 12MP sensor and an f/1.8 aperture. There’s also a 64MP telephoto lens that claims to be the best camera quality on a smartphone. Samsung advertises a 3x hybrid zoom and up to 30x “Super Resolution Zoom”. There’s also a 12MP 120-degree ultra wide lens found on all three devices.

Samsung has then included an 8K-capable 64MP module on the S20 range. The S20 Ultra then includes the 108MP lens and a 100x digital zoom.

The base S20 has now replaced last year’s “e” model. It packs a 6.2-inch display that also packs the new 120Hz refresh rate and a 1440+ resolution. The device features a 10MP selfie camera which is now smaller than last year’s model.
