Samsung has announced that last year’s Galaxy S23 range will get the new Galaxy S24 AI features next month. Right now, you’ll need a Galaxy S24 device to make use of the latest AI advancements from Samsung but that doesn’t mean these features are exclusive to the hardware. During the announcement last month, Samsung confirmed that older devices would get AI but we didn’t have a date. Now we do.
In March, Galaxy S23 owners will be able to update their phones to the new Samsung One UI 6.1 which will include the AI enhancements. Supported devices include the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, S23 Ultra and even the S23 FE. Samsung’s foldable devices from 2023 will also get them as well as the Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus and S9 Ultra.
The One UI 6.1 update will include the AI features on the S24 series including live translation, Google’s Circle to Search and some photo and video editing. This means just like the S24 lineup, the S23, and other included devices, will all make use of on-and off-device processing to deliver these AI settings.
Samsung has confirmed that you can disable all these AI features if you don’t want them. The company has added this setting in order to give people options to pay or not to pay for AI advancements in the future. Samsung plans on rolling out a premium payment plan for its customers next year.
So right now, the AI features are in a “free trial” period. Samsung hasn’t shared any pricing tiers for the AI content yet. In addition, the company has not confirmed when the price lockdown will happen. We just know it will take place sometime in 2025.
Samsung One UI 6.1 is set to launch at the “end of March” according to the press release.
