Galaxy Fold Launch

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Now Folds Without a Gap

Samsung is gearing up to announce its new foldable range in late July. This is expected given that each year around this time, the company unveils the new Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 lineup. According to leaked photos and information, this year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Fold will feature a fully-foldable frame which means there won’t be any gap between the two screens as there has been in previous years.

Leaked photos from Android Police show off the tighter unit. When closed, the two sides completely seal the display inside and there’s almost no gap at all for things to slide into the panel when it’s in your pocket.

According to reports, both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 feature this new hinge design which means both units will fold flush against the panel when you close them. Reports also claim that the new hinge design eliminates fold on the display too so it is a win-win.

Sadly, just because the unit seals itself when closed doesn’t mean the device is any more protective than before. A leaked rating for both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip reveals that both devices still lack the IP58 dust-proof standard. This means dust and sand can still get into the unit regardless of this new hinge.

Still, the closed gap is definitely a move in the right direction. Samsung is expected to announce the new Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold alongside the Watch 6 and Tab S9 later this month.
