All TVs on the market have one obstacle to get over – glare. While most LED TVs make use of a matte-like coating on the glass, OLED TVs often have a shinier reflective panel which can cause issues watching content in bright rooms. Samsung seems to have overcome this hurdle now with its new 2024 QD-OLED TV – the new S95D.
The company says this new OLED Glare Free tech is featured on its new 2024 high-end TV range and reduces glare coming from external light sources in the room. The new coating should provide a reflection-free experience when watching TV on your fancy new OLED and Samsung says there are no negative impacts on the picture quality or viewing angle as a result.

The new Glare Free Samsung S95D OLED was shown off at CES 2024. Samsung says the new “low-reflection technology uses a new specialized hard-coating layer and surface coating pattern to deliver beautiful detail of OLED without the glare”. It is then doubled up by making use of the “brightest OLED screen from Samsung to date”.
The Samsung S95D OLED will be available in various sizes all the way from 55 inches up to 77 inches. It boasts 144Hz gaming support and Samsung’s new “AI-enhanced colour accuracy” which has apparently been validated by Pantone. But the glare-free coating is the big selling point here.
New ‘OLED Glare Free’ technology7— specifically designed for 2024 OLED screens — preserves color accuracy and reduces reflections while maintaining image sharpness to ensure an immersive viewing experience, even in daylight. The OLED-optimized, low-reflection coating overcomes the trade-off between gloss and reflection thanks to a new, specialized hard-coating layer and surface coating pattern.
Samsung showcased the coating by positioning the TV next to a “conventional OLED”. The difference in glare was night and day. The conventional OLED has a noticeable reflection on the panel whereas the glare-free model has almost no reflection at all. Of course, there was a slight glow around the area where the window light was coming in but the matte-like finish seemed to scatter the light around the surface to reduce the glare. It is quite impressive.
Of course, Samsung is reserving the new Glare Free tech for its high-end S95D OLED. The S90D isn’t getting this coating so you’ll need to be prepared to spend quite a lot of money on the best OLED from Samsung in order to benefit from the feature.
