Out of nowhere, Adult Swim Games announced a brand new Samurai Jack game called Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time. A short teaser for the upcoming game was released last night and shows a short snippet of gameplay alongside some cinematics including the appearance of the iconic antagonist Aku. Samurai Jack aired back in 2001 on Cartoon Network with a final season released in 2017 on Adult Swim.
The upcoming hack and slash action-looking game marks the first time since 2011 that Samurai Jack will star in a video game. The last being Cartoon Network’s Punch Time Explosion. The hero also got is own solo video game way back in 20014 called “Shadow of Aku” and if anything, the game seems to be following the same path in visuals and gameplay design.
From what we can gather from the gameplay, it will boast some intense close combat action with combos, slashing and of course, the over-the-top Samurai Jack action we know from the tv series. The game seems to also include both the classic Jack design from the original 2001 series and the redesigned version from the 2017 edition. You can see this by the bearded samurai spotted in some of the combat scenes and avoiding attacks from the giant stone golem.
The voice for Jack, Phil LaMarr tweeted the news himself which means he will be reprising his role of the well-known character in the video game. More information about the game is said to be revealed at PAX East this week. The game will be published by Adult Swim Games and released on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
