San Diego Comic Con 2024 featured some big announcements over the weekend including the Marvel panel, The Boys, Invincible, HBO’s The Penguin series and much more. By now, most of the internet might’ve heard the news that Robert Downey Jr is officially returning to the MCU to play Victor Von Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. However, that wasn’t the only noteworthy reveal. Here’s a complete roundup of all the biggest news and trailers to come out of SDCC.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is Coming in 2025 – First Look at the Fantasticar
Marvel’s panel in Hall H kicked off with some news regarding the upcoming Fantastic Four movie starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. It will officially be titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps and it’s coming to cinemas on 25 July 2025. Hall H also showed off the new Fantasticar, confirming the movie’s 1960s-inspired retrofuturistic theme.

Robert Downey Jr Returns to the MCU as Doctor Doom
Marvel Studios confirmed that Robert Downey Jr will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom for the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday. He will not play a variant of Tony Stark (that we know of) as the Russo brothers introduced him as Victor Von Doom.

Marvel Rivals Gets New Cinematic Trailer
While the game is still in beta testing, Marvel dropped a new trailer for its Overwatch clone, Marvel Rivals. The cinematic trailer is all about Dr Doom from various timelines as the villain summons Marvel heroes from across the multiverse to fight it out in order to determine who is the strongest hero of all. Seems the PvP hero shooter has a story after all.
Transformers One Gets New Trailer Ahead of Launch in September
Paramount has released a new trailer for the upcoming Transformers One ahead of the film’s launch in September. The animated movie is a different take on the series and follows the so-called “younger” Transformers. It is set in the distant past and tells the story of how Optimus Prime and Megatron went from being best friends to mortal enemies. Catch the new trailer below. The film is expected to launch on 20 September.
Peacock’s Horror Thriller Teacup Releases in October
Peacock revealed a short teaser for its upcoming horror thriller series Teacup. Peacock says the series will start streaming in October and “follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.”
Teacup has been created by showrunner Ian McCulloch who is known for his work on the Western show Yellowstone. There’s a brief teaser trailer to watch too.
Bioshock Movie Still Being Worked on at Netflix
First off, we have the news that Netflix is still working on the Bioshock movie. During a panel at San Diego Comic Con, producer Roy Lee confirmed the film is still in pre-production. However, Lee claims that Netflix has “reconfigured” the project’s budgets which will result in a “smaller version” than originally planned.
The panel confirmed that the Bioshock movie is going to be a more “personal point of view, as opposed to a grander, big project”. We don’t know when the movie will be released at this point. It was originally announced back in 2022. Source: Variety
Pokemon Horizons Gets Netflix Trailer
The Ash-less Pokemon Horizon animated series is now available on Netflix (not in South Africa) and The Pokemon Company released a special trailer to tease fans. The trailer reveals some story points and also touches on some of the intense battles across the series. Of course, the Pokemon Horizon animated series is set in the Scarlet and Violet era. You can’t watch it on Netflix in South Africa, sadly.
Mario and Yoshi are Getting the LEGO Treatment
LEGO has announced a new collaboration with Nintendo to bring a Mario and Yoshi set to customers. The set includes a pixellated Mario and Yoshi designed after the classic Super Mario World game. It is a 1,215-piece set and includes a motion mechanism that once turned, sees Mario and Yoshi animate as if they were running over a hill.
The set is open on the backside so you are meant to display this front-facing. LEGO says it will launch on 1 October. There’s no local confirmation on the launch yet but it is expected to retail for $129.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Announced
Paramount+ announced a new, pretty cool-looking new animated film called Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The film has been created with a unique-looking sketch art style which is likely one of the first of its kind. The trailer, which doubles up as the announcement, is the film’s opening theme song. So you’ll see it when you watch it in August.
Alien: Rogue Incursion VR Game Gets New Trailer
With the highly anticipated Alien: Romulus movie on the horizon, the Alien hype is in full steam. SDCC presented a new trailer for the eerie upcoming VR Game, Alien: Rogue Incursion, launching holiday 2024. Have a look at it below.
Star Trek: Section 31 Gets Teaser Trailer
The first teaser trailer for Star Trek: Section 31 was shown off at SDCC over the weekend, which primarily focuses on the Mirror Universe empress, Philippa Georgiou (played by Michelle Yeoh). Watch the trailer below.
Star Trek: Lower Decks Gets Teaser for Fifth and Final Season
That wasn’t the only bit of Star Trek news to come out of San Diego Comic Con this weekend. Fans of the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks also received a teaser trailer for the show’s fifth and final season, which you can watch below. It will start streaming next year.
HBO Debuts First Trailer for The Penguin
Colin Farrell will reprise his role as The Penguin from 2022’s The Batman in a new HBO Max series revolving around his character, crime activity in Gotham and his rise to being a notorious villain and kingpin.
In a Violent Nature 2 Confirmed
In a Violent Nature, one of 2024’s breakout horror movies, is getting a sequel following the critical success of the first movie. Not much is actually known about the sequel yet.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Reunites Maggie and Negan
AMC released a new trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City which reunites Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in a new spin-off of The Walking Dead. The show has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its debut in 2025.
First Look at Amazon’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza Series
Amazon showed off the first look at Like a Dragon: Yakuza, a series based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. It’s set to release on Prime Video this October.
Mortal Kombat 1 is Getting a Big Story Expansion
NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. announced the next big story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, titled Khaos Reigns. As previous leaks suggested, six new fighters will be joining the game including Ghostface, the T-1000, Conan the Barbarian, Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor.
