San Diego Comic Con – The Biggest Trailers and News

San Diego Comic Con is currently underway and there have been a number of announcements dropped during the convention. If you missed some of the news, we have you covered. Here is a roundup of all the biggest trailers and news from the event. Keep in mind that San Diego Comic Con is still running and major panels are scheduled for this weekend so expect more news then too.

Bioshock Movie Still Being Worked on at Netflix

First off, we have the news that Netflix is still working on the Bioshock movie. During a panel at San Diego Comic Con, producer Roy Lee confirmed the film is still in pre-production. However, Lee claims that Netflix has “reconfigured” the project’s budgets which will result in a “smaller version” than originally planned.

The panel confirmed that the Bioshock movie is going to be a more “personal point of view, as opposed to a grander, big project”. We don’t know when the movie will be released at this point. It was originally announced back in 2022. – Source: Variety

Peacock’s Horror Thriller Teacup Releases in October

Peacock revealed a short teaser for its upcoming horror thriller series Teacup. Peacock says the series will start streaming in October and “follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.”

Teacup has been created by showrunner Ian McCulloch who is known for his work on the Western show Yellowstone. There’s a brief teaser trailer to watch too.

Transformers One Gets New Trailer Ahead of Launch in September

Paramount has released a new trailer for the upcoming Transformers One ahead of the film’s launch in September. The animated movie is a different take on the series and follows the so-called “younger” Transformers. It is set in the distant past and tells the story of how Optimus Prime and Megatron went from being best friends to mortal enemies. Catch the new trailer below. The film is expected to launch on 20 September.

Pokemon Horizons Gets Netflix Trailer

The Ash-less Pokemon Horizon animated series is now available on Netflix (not in South Africa) and The Pokemon Company released a special trailer to tease fans. The trailer reveals some story points and also touches on some of the intense battles across the series. Of course, the Pokemon Horizon animated series is set in the Scarlet and Violet era. You can’t watch it on Netflix in South Africa, sadly.

Mario and Yoshi are Getting the LEGO Treatment

LEGO has announced a new collaboration with Nintendo to bring a Mario and Yoshi set to customers. The set includes a pixellated Mario and Yoshi designed after the classic Super Mario World game. It is a 1,215-piece set and includes a motion mechanism that once turned, sees Mario and Yoshi animate as if they were running over a hill.

The set is open on the backside so you are meant to display this front-facing. LEGO says it will launch on 1 October. There’s no local confirmation on the launch yet but it is expected to retail for $129.

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Announced

Paramount+ announced a new, pretty cool-looking new animated film called Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The film has been created with a unique-looking sketch art style which is likely one of the first of its kind. The trailer, which doubles up as the announcement, is the film’s opening theme song. So you’ll see it when you watch it in August.

Marvel Rivals Gets New Cinematic Trailer

While the game is still in beta testing, Marvel dropped a new trailer for its Overwatch clone, Marvel Rivals. The cinematic trailer is all about Dr Doom from various timelines as the villain summons Marvel heroes from across the multiverse to fight it out in order to determine who is the strongest hero of all. Seems the PvP hero shooter has a story after all.
