GTA 6 Grand Theft Auto 4 Protagonists 3 Cities Report Rockstar

Scrapped GTA 6 Plans Included 4 Protagonists and 3 Cities – Report

Last week, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier blew the lid open on plenty of new details about Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated upcoming title, Grand Theft Auto 6. Apparently, the game will feature a female protagonist (as part of a duo of protagonists) as well as an evolving world and a return to the Miami setting of Vice City. However, a new report suggests that GTA 6 once featured 4 protagonists and 3 cities in the early stages of development.

According to Stephen Totilo of Axios (citing a close source), the early development of GTA 6 included 4 protagonists and 3 cities, which explains why the codename was “Project Americas.” This was something that Bloomberg hinted at in its report as well, which talked about more ambitious ideas that needed to be downscaled to its current Miami setting and two protagonists only.

The idea to feature 4 protagonists was likely in an attempt to outdo GTA V‘s trio of protagonists Franklin, Michael and Trevor, as well as deliver a much larger sandbox spread across three massive cities as opposed to one in Los Santos – a feat that was already done in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas almost two decades ago.

We can’t really take any of these new reports as gospel so as with any rumour, take it with a pinch of salt instead. However, the influx of reports coming in, especially from reputable sources, suggests that there might be some truth to these claims. Developer Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive haven’t addressed any of these leaks directly yet.

If these reports turn out to be true, then we can expect to see GTA 6 in the next couple of years in some capacity. Given Rockstar’s lengthy development process, though, we may be waiting a lot longer as GTA Online continues to keep the companies stable with a flow of income as it climbs to being one of the best-selling games of all time.
