Sea of Thieves releases later this month for PS5 and developer Rare has revealed some features players can look forward to on the platform. The studio also detailed the performance of Sea of Thieves on PS5 and confirmed that the platform will get exclusive cosmetic items.
First off, if you have already played the game on Xbox or PC you’ll be able to transfer your progression and items across to PS5 at launch. Rare says after you link your Microsoft account to the PS5, it will carry over all Commendations, cosmetics, Twitch Drops and accumulated gold, Doubloons and Ancient Coins.
Keep in mind that certain cosmetics won’t be usable on PS5. Rare says that a limited number of platform-exclusive cosmetics will show up on PS5 but you won’t be able to equip them. For example, the Duke ship cosmetics linked to the Xbox Series X|S launch won’t be usable on PS5. However, items you unlock on PS5 will be available on Xbox and PC.
This includes the PlayStation 5 exclusive pre-order cosmetic, the Ruby Viper weapons and the Scarlet Storm Parakeet. Both are pre-order exclusive cosmetic packs available on PS5. Rare is also working on a unique sail to launch alongside the PS5 version later this month which is available to all players.
Sea of Thieves features full cross-play across Xbox, PS5 and PC. Players will see “other platform” friends when playing as well as PS5 friends online at the same time. You can also turn off cross-platform play to stick to only PS5 servers. You’ll also need an active PlayStation Plus membership to play Sea of Thieves online. Without a subscription, players can only access the Safer Seas solo mode.
When it comes to the performance of Sea of Thieves on PS5, Rare says the game comes with two graphics modes. The first is the standard 4K 60FPS mode and the second is a 120Hz 1080p mode.
Other PS5 features include:
- Haptics – Sea of Thieves uses the haptic feedback technology within the DualSense controller to enhance the experience of movement and interaction with the world.
- Adaptive Triggers – Sea of Thieves uses the adaptive triggers within the DualSense controller to heighten gunplay, allowing players to feel each pull of the trigger.
- Built-In Microphone and Speaker – Sea of Thieves uses a built-in microphone so players can chat to their friends without the need for a connected headset.
Sea of Thieves will also ship with 60 unlockable trophies and a Platinum to earn if you get them all.
