Sega Accidentally Reveals Updated Sales for Sonic, Persona and More

Major gaming publisher Sega has accidentally revealed updated sales numbers for a handful of its key titles and franchises including Sonic, Persona, Like a Dragon and more. The figures were included in a recent presentation document that was then uploaded to the company’s investor relations website. One slide of the presentation hid the table of sales figures but before Sega could remove it, it was already captured and circulated online.

According to the document, Persona 5 Royal (not counting the original Persona 5) sold 7.25 million units, accounting for the remaster as well as the multiplatform release. Sales figures for Sonic Frontiers were only released two years ago, revealing that it had sold 3.5 million units in its first year. However, the updated sales chart shows that it sold a further one million units since 2023 (for a total of 4.5 million lifetime sales). This easily makes it the best-selling 3D Sonic game released to date.

Here’s a breakdown of all the figures provided in the leaked sales table:

  • Persona 5 Royal – 7.25 million
  • Sonic Frontiers – 4.57 million
  • Team Sonic Racing – 3.5 million
  • Total War: Three Kingdoms – 3.21 million
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon – 2.86 million
  • Sonic Superstars – 2.43 million
  • Total War: Warhammer III – 2.34 million
  • Shin Megami Tensei V (Including Vengeance) – 2.11 million
  • Persona 3 Reload – 2.07 million
  • Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth – 1.66 million
  • Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name – 960,000

Sega was ranked as the highest-rated publisher of 2024 due to the success of Metaphor: ReFantazio and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. With such high sales for Persona 5 Royal alone (not including the original game which would bring its overall sales up by quite a large margin), it’s no surprise that we’ve seen so many spin-offs of the game over the years. The Persona series in general is doing quite well for itself with Persona 4 Revival, a remake of the fourth game, recently announced at the Xbox Games Showcase.
