September State of Play Roundup – Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy VII and More

Sony hosted its September State of Play last night and if you missed it, the stream played host to a number of announcements. We got release dates for some anticipated games while also getting a new glimpse at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (alongside a release date too).

Here’s everything that was shown off during the State of Play.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Trailer and Release Date

Square Enix shared a fancy new trailer with us for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The trailer takes us all over the game and explores some open-world mechanics, and combat and even reveals new characters. It definitely looks like the sequel we have been waiting for. The game will launch on 29 February 2024 only on PS5.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 New Look

Sony showed off some new gameplay for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The trailer was filled with combat, new suits, exploration and more. It also showcased how quickly players can transition between Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The game is expected to launch on 20 October only on PS5.

Resident Evil 4 PS VR2 Update and Separate Ways DLC

Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 4 PS VR2 port is on track to launch in “winter” so expect it within the next few months. The studio also announced the Separate Ways DLC where players will take on the role of Ada Wong in her own side story that takes place during the main game. It is launching on 21 September.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Gets a Story

Ubisoft’s new trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora touches on the game’s story, You play as a Na’vi who was kidnapped by humans and raised as a child soldier in Pandora. After Jake Sully gets kicked off the planet, you’re left to discover Pandora and learn the ways of your people. The game is launching on 7 December.

Helldivers Gets Delayed to 2024

What was originally meant to be released before the end of the year, Helldivers has been delayed to February 2024. In the new trailer, we see players take down a giant alien while literally blowing it apart and killing their teammates at the same time. The game is launching on PS5 and PC on 8 February 2024.

New PS5 Console Covers and DualSense Colours 

A re range of “Deep Earth” PS5 console covers and DualSense colours are coming soon. They include metallic red, blue and silver finished across all accessories.

Baby Steps Looks Strange 

The State of Play opened with a strange-looking game called Baby Steps. It was created by the same guy behind Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. You walk around and trip over stuff. It is scheduled to launch sometime in 2024.

Ghostbusters: Rise of The Ghost Lord Gameplay

PS VR2 owners can look forward to Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord when it launches on 26 October. The game is a co-op-driven PS VR2 shooter where players work together to hunt down and capture all sorts of strange ghosts. It seems to be filled with all the awesomeness we love from the series.

Roblox Hits PS5 on 10 October

Sony announced that Roblox would arrive on PS5 and PS4 on 10 October.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn DLC Announced

Tales if Arise is getting DLC. The JRPG which was released back in 2021 will now see its story continue in a chapter called Beyond the Dawn. It takes place after the events of the main game. In this title, you can experience a new story and adventure set in the world after the union of two worlds. You can enjoy the story of a new encounter with a girl named Nazamil and experience the reunion of Alphen and his parties to confront the fierce destiny she has followed.

Ghostrunner 2 Demo Announced 

There’s a Ghostrunner 2 demo now available on PS5. The demo dropped during the State of Play with a new trailer. Players can try the game before it launches on 26 October.

Starrail Gets a Release Date

Starrail, from the creators of Genshin Impact, got a new trailer during the State of Play. It shows off the game’s turn-based combat and a touch of the story. The game launches on 11 October for PS5.

Foamstars Beta Announced

Foamstars is getting a beta later this month. The Splatoon clone will be open for all players to test out from 29 September to 1 October.
