Sony is reportedly set to host a PlayStation Showcase sometime in late May or early June which will be much bigger than your standard State of Play. The mid-generation event will apparently lay out Sony’s road map of releases for the next few years of the PS5 and expectations are high for the company to deliver after mostly avoiding shows last year. Now it’s just a matter of timing. According to a new report, several PlayStation studios are ready to show new games.
The report comes from ResetEra user Shinobi602 who appears to have some inside knowledge on happenings at Sony. “To be clear, I don’t know what Sony’s exact plans are when it comes to a showcase or State of Plays and all that,” said the user. “But I know a good amount of teams are at a point where things are certainly ready to be shown. That’s exciting.”

Jeff Grubb was among the first to mention a potential PlayStation Showcase taking place very soon, though details are still a bit murky about what fans can expect. We know Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might be releasing later this year so it would make sense for Insomniac Games to finally blow the lid open on the game at this showcase. Sony’s first-party studios such as Bluepoint, Sucker Punch and more have yet to show new projects so we can hopefully expect them to make an appearance here too.
In related news, PlayStation competitor Xbox is also gearing up for its own Games Showcase set to take place on 11 June. Xbox head Phil Spencer says he’s feeling “enthusiastic” about the event after failing to deliver on games previously teased at last year’s showcase. In light of Redfall‘s release, Spencer also apologised for the game’s rocky launch and has committed to improving the game with developer Arkane Austin.
As with all reports, take this with a pinch of salt until we get confirmation from PlayStation.
