Frogwares has announced that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One won’t be releasing this year. The developer claims to have a release date for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions nailed down and will announce this date later this week. However, this release date won’t include the old-gen consoles.
The developer says that the delay is needed in order to deliver a solid experience for those playing on PS4 and Xbox One. Frogwares says that after the recent extensive QA test of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, they have decided to delay the game until further notice.
Frogwares communications manager Sergey Oganesyan said:
“We understand some players will be upset about this news, but we made the decision with you first in mind. Rest assured, we are not canceling these versions. We only need more time and a little breathing room for our team to wrap these up properly. We are talking a few weeks at most, but this is still to be seen.”
Fans can expect a full release date announcement this week. Frogwares is expected to release a brand-new trailer for Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One tomorrow, Thursday 16 September. Unfortunately, the release date in the trailer will be specific to the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC versions. The trailer will also feature a deep dive into the game’s features and world.
For those who don’t know, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One takes place on the fictional island of Córdona. Sherlock grew up on the island and the game’s story acts as a prequel to the mastermind detective’s past. The previous gameplay trailer focused on a range of disguises as well as a handful of investigations and how these identities tie into the various regions in the game. The upcoming deep dive will expand on this further.
