Showmax has announced its 2024 pricing and the good news is the service isn’t going up by much. Instead, Showmax plans to keep the existing Premier League plans at the current price and increase Showmax Entertainment by R10 to R99 and Showmax Entertainment Mobile by R6 to R45.
This means subscribers will be able to enjoy the Premier League and Premier League Mobile packages at R140 and R99 respectively.
Showmax says the slight increase in pricing for the Entertainment tier is a “normalisation” following the discounted launch price for Showmax 2.0. Showmax 2.0 launched in early 2024 to some rather mixed reviews. The relaunch was marred with bugs, missing account information and compatibility issues. However, the service has also remained at R99 since 2015 when it originally launched in South Africa.
“Showmax Entertainment will revert to its original R99/month, which was the launch price in 2015, while Showmax Entertainment Mobile will be priced at R45, at the low end of mobile streaming prices globally
Showmax CEO Marc Jury says the Premier League service will let South Africans enjoy all 380 matches in an affordable package.
“As a lifelong football fanatic, I can’t tell you how excited I am for the return of the greatest football league in the world. Pricing is something that all businesses have to review regularly, and we launched with attractive pricing on the new Showmax platform. We are thrilled that we’ve been able to keep Showmax Premier League and bundled Showmax plans unchanged, bringing all 380 Premier League matches to millions of football fans in Africa and continuing to focus on making streaming affordable and effortless,”
As it stands, Showmax will cost the following prices for 2024:
