Showmax Relaunch Reveals New Pricing, App and Release Date

Showmax has announced a relaunch in Africa that will include new monthly pricing, a new app with added features and a release date that’s right around the corner. First launched in 2015, Showmax has brought several international and local television shows and movies to a unified streaming service available for South Africans and other countries across the continent that don’t yet have access to HBO Max, Peacock and other platforms.

Showmax recently announced the relaunch of Showmax Entertainment with a new price of R89 per month, dropping from R99. The Showmax Entertainment Mobile app, which will enable users to stream shows and movies from their mobile phones, will launch for just R39 a month. Additionally, Showmax Premier League will be the world’s first standalone Premier League plan for mobile, featuring all 380 football games offered live. It will also launch alongside the revamp at R69 a month for mobile.

Marc Jury, CEO of Showmax, talked about Showmax’s big push into mobile:

“There are currently just over 450 million smartphones in the hands of individuals across Africa… and more than 250 million avid football lovers on the continent. Showmax Premier League is a game-changing product that gives individuals a ticket to the football they love, wherever they are, on the device they always have with them, at a price that’s impossible not to love.”

Showmax will house several shows and movies from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, NBC, Peacock, DreamWorks Animation and Telemundo, as well as draw from HBO and Paramount including Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One and Halo season 2 in February and new seasons of House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, True Detective and The White Lotus on the way.

As for the release date, the Showmax Showmax Showmaxapp will be available from 23 January 2024. The new, refreshed Showmax will then officially launch on 12 February 2024.
