A remake of the first Silent Hill game has been announced by publisher Konami with the Silent Hill 2 remake developer Bloober Team returning to helm the project. Konami made the announcement during its recent Press Start showcase, ending the show on the news. Unfortunately, nothing was shown other than confirmation that a Silent Hill 1 remake was now on the way from the team behind last year’s acclaimed revival.
The first Silent Hill video game was developed by Team Silent at Konami and released in 1999 for the original PlayStation. It followed the story of protagonist Harry Mason who stumbles into the titular haunted town to find his missing daughter, Cheryl. Applauded for its focus on psychological horror and building a tense atmosphere through its foggy visuals, the first game in the series is held in high regard as a classic today.
Over 25 years later, it looks like we’re finally getting a remake of Silent Hill 1. Konami ended its recent showcase on the announcement, but all that was shown was a screen confirming that the game’s in development at Bloober Team while the series’ eerie theme song plays (it’s mostly synonymous with the first game).
Bloober Team developed 2024’s Silent Hill 2 remake to critical acclaim, receiving plenty of positive reviews from fans and critics. Since the studio proved it could handle the Silent Hill IP with care and respect, fans wondered if another remake was on the way. Earlier this year, suspicions rose when Bloober Team announced that it would be partnering with Konami again on a new project. However, the mystery title wasn’t named until now.
Konami posted on social media the reveal with the caption “The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh”, which is a quote from the first Silent Hill game. Sadly, it could be a while until we see more of this highly anticipated remake as it could still be in the early stages of development.
