Silent Hill F Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill 2 Remake Lets You Turn Off UI and Add 90s Filter

The upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake from developer Bloober Team is looking to increase the immersion factor by allowing you to turn off the UI and toggle a “90s filter” with grain effects and colour correction for that old-school vibe.

Bloober Team posted a short example on social media yesterday showing off the Silent Hill 2 remake with the UI disabled, adding a bit more immersion to an otherwise already immersive psychological horror experience. The lack of UI also ups the horror elements as you’ll never know how much ammo you have for guns or how much health James has left, though his behaviour and facial animations will give you enough information about his state.

“Without UI, player guidance will naturally be directed by the game’s visuals, sound effects and James’s behavior,” Bloober Team explained. “He will glance towards important spots and have different animations and facial expressions during wounded states.”

In addition to the UI toggle, Bloober Team is also adding a 90s filter to the Silent Hill 2 remake with grain effects, colour correction and screen adjustments if you’re looking to relive the glory days of the original game’s tone and visuals.

In other news, Bloober Team previously stated that it will take around 16-18 hours to beat the remake. This makes it twice the length of the original game which clocked in at around 8 hours. That playtime can also be stretched to 20 hours or more depending on how much the player explores and if they’re interested in finding every secret that the game has to offer.

Silent Hill 2 arrives on 8 October 2024 for PS5 and PC.
