Developer Bloober Team has detailed how long it will take to complete its upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2. According to Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart, the Silent Hill 2 remake will at least be twice as long as the original game, with completionists looking to see everything that the game has to offer getting a few more hours on top of that.
Lenart explained in a post on X that the Silent Hill 2 remake will take players 16-18 hours to complete their first playthrough. Thereafter, completionists who want to find everything are looking at a playtime upwards of 20 hours or more. By comparison, the original Silent Hill 2 takes players about 8-10 hours to complete, meaning the remake will be twice as long as the original game.
“If you like to spend your time searching for everything we put into the game, and the things we’ve hidden for you, it will take you more than 20 hours, for sure,” Lenart explained. “I’m not counting the new game plus and all endings, of course. I’m curious how fast you will get all of them.”
First playthrough is around 16-18 hours avarage 🙂

With more advanced hardware today, the remake can add more detail and content into the original game’s experience – content that otherwise would’ve been trimmed down or altered due to the limitations of the PS2 at the time. Judging by all the gameplay trailers we’ve seen so far, we presume that Bloober Team expanded the scope and scale of the town itself, which would take protagonist James Sunderland longer to navigate and cross.
Of course, the longer playtime could also mean more content, though Bloober Team says it tried to stay as faithful to the original title as possible in terms of what’s already in the game. We’ll have to wait for the full game to launch on 8 October 2024 for PS5 and PC to find out if this lengthier playtime amounts to something good or bad.
