Last week, Konami and developer NeoBards Entertainment officially revealed Silent Hill F, the next mainline entry in the long-running horror series, following a teaser trailer released two years ago. The game will be quite a detour for the franchise as it’s the first set in 1960s Japan instead of the iconic haunted town in Maine, though we’ll have to wait for the full game to see how everything connects. Thanks to a recent ESRB rating, we now have some gory new details about the game. Be warned, some of it is quite graphic.
The ESRB recently released a detailed description about some of the gameplay and horror elements we can expect to see in Silent Hill F. Firstly, the rating confirms that it will feature a third-person perspective with “survival horror, exploration, puzzles, NPC interaction and fighting monsters with axes, crowbars, knives and spears in melee-style combat.” This suggests that there won’t be traditional guns in the game, rather melee weapons to use in combat.
The rating goes on to mention that protagonist Hinako can be impaled in the neck by enemies or have her face ripped apart. Additionally, there is also “gore in cutscenes, burning characters alive, entrails, amputation and partial nudity.”
Judging by the gory details in the descriptions, it seems like Konami isn’t holding back when it comes to depicting disturbing imagery and violence in Silent Hill F. Those familiar with the series overall might see this as par for the course. Past games have been known to also feature quite graphic violence while tackling disturbing themes and stories.
Last year’s remake of Silent Hill 2, which was developed by Bloober Team, also had its fair share of graphic horror and gore. The game went on to be nominated for several awards at The Game Awards, including Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Narrative and Best Performance for Luke Roberts as protagonist James Sunderland.
Silent Hill F is scheduled to release in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
