While Sony spent a small fortune paying Ben Stiller and John Travolta to appear in the western marketing campaign for God of War Ragnarok, Sony Japan has taken a different route. I don’t know if Ben Stiller’s appearance depleted Sony’s budget but the Japanese God of War Ragnarok trailer is pretty much a low-budget sing-along song and is quite catchy.
The trailer stars Hiromichi Sato alongside two backup dancers as they sing along to an original song made for God of War Ragnarok. Sato is actually known for his ridiculous and colourful sing-along songs. The Japanese actor used to star as Taisou Brother in the show Okaasan to Issho for 12 years. The show aired on Japan’s NHK channel and was aimed at kids. It featured a lot of sing-along tunes, dancing and light-hearted comedy.
The Japan God of War Ragnarok trailer aligns much with his previous work. Well, apart from the brutal slaying of Norse monsters in-between the tune. The song also explains the game’s plot while returning to the same chorus line to expand on the core gameplay. If I understood Japanese, I would be humming this all day. But even if you don’t, this is definitely worth the watch.
God of War Ragnarok releases on 9 November for PS4 and PS5. Stay tuned for my review of the game going live later today.
