Skull and Bones Land Combat Update Year 2

Skull and Bones is Finally Getting Land Combat in Update Later This Year

Skull and Bones is over a year old at this point but Ubisoft is finally adding land combat to the game via an update coming later this year. Major content such as new modes, ships and even the Kraken are also on the way. Ubisoft wants to make sure Year 2 of Skull and Bones sees the most substantial improvements.

During a special Year 2 presentation that debuted yesterday, Ubisoft laid out its big plans for Skull and Bones going forward. After much fan demand, the company is finally adding land combat to the game in the Season 3: Guts and Glory update arriving this fall. We got a small glimpse of what this gameplay will look like in the presentation, letting players engage in sword fights and draw firearms. It’s still a work in progress so we’ll get more gameplay closer to the time.

Season 1: Ascent Into Chaos, which launched yesterday, added a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, a new Schooner medium ship and the team-based PvP mode called Death Tides. Season 2: Oaths of War, scheduled to arrive in summer 2025, will add Megaforts and the gigantic Frigate ships. Season 3: Guts and Glory releases in fall 2025 with the aforementioned land combat and other features, while Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for winter, will add the Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild and the Corvette large ship.

Skull and Bones initially launched in February 2024 to mostly middling reviews and a low player count. There was a lot stacked against it, including an incredibly lengthy development period along with Ubisoft dubbing it the industry’s first “AAAA” game worthy of its $70 price tag. If the Year 2 updates prove anything, it’s that the $70 price tag and “AAAA” label probably wasn’t worth it. Nonetheless, it’s good to see Ubisoft doubling down on the game with cool new content instead of abandoning it like many live-service games these days.
