Sonic Superstars currently doesn’t have a release date yet but SEGA has showcased the opening animation for the upcoming platformer. The short clip is what will play when you first boot up Sonic Superstars whenever it gets released later this year.
You’ll likely watch the clip once and skip it every time afterwards but SEGA has put a lot of effort into this short animation. The clip features a classic hand-drawn, water-painted style and shows off each character and their special moves.

For those who don’t know, Sonic Superstars is a new upcoming four-player 3D platformer where players take on the role of Sonic, Amy, Knuckles and Tails. Each character is seen in the trailer bashing enemies. Tails is also seen flying around in his iconic plane.
The interesting thing to note here is Sonic’s ability where he duplicates himself a few times over using a gem. This is an ability in the game. We also see Dr Eggman in the clip alongside his two henchmen. Little is known about the henchmen at this time.
The music in the animation has been created by Tee Lopes and Jun Senoue. Tee is known for his history on the Sonic series. He worked on music for Sonic Mania and its various releases. Jun Senoue has also been a veteran in the series. He composed the soundtrack for many classic Sonic The Hedgehog games including Sonic and The Black Knight, Adventures 2 and even Shadow the Hedgehog.
Sonic Superstars is set to launch sometime later this year. You can sign up for the game’s newsletter and unlock a special Amy outfit at the launch of the game. Find out more about that here.
