Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Movie New Characters End

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Greenlit Ahead of Third Movie’s Release

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has yet to release in every country this month but Paramount Pictures has already greenlit a fourth movie. The studio has set a release window of 2027 for Sonic The Hedgehog 4, though we don’t know any story details yet or which characters will appear in the sequel.

As reported by Variety, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 is currently in the planning stages with a release set for sometime in 2027. No story details were shared, though fans seem to be speculating about which characters might appear in the sequel after the third movie’s post-credits scenes.

The third movie arrives in South African cinemas on 27 December and follows the story of Sonic and his friends as they clash with a new mysterious hedgehog, Shadow, played by Keanu Reeves. Ben Schwartz returns to voice Sonic while Idris Elba voices Knuckles. Jim Carrey also returns as Dr. Robotnik. The plot description reads:

Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.”

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 scored generously with critics, beating out Mufasa: The Lion King which is another major movie release this December. Sonic 3 currently has an 87% approval rating on RottenTomatoes.

With a fourth movie on the way, SEGA seems to have big plans for its speedy mascot in the movie and television world. Apart from spin-offs like the TV series Knuckles, we’ll likely see more projects from this cinematic universe down the line. Fans are already speculating that future sequels could see more familiar characters added to the Sonic family – some even suggest that a crossover movie with Mario might be possible at this point.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 arrives in cinemas on 27 December 2024.
