Sonic X Shadow Generations Summer Game Fest Release Date Gameplay

Sonic X Shadow Generations Website Hints at 4th Playable Character

Sonic X Shadow Generations is set to launch later this year, giving players a blast of nostalgia with Sonic and Shadow teaming up once again. Players will be able to play as Sonic, classic Sonic and Shadow but the game’s Japanese website has accidentally leaked the possibility of a fourth playable character.

As discovered by Twitter/X user TailsChannel, the Japanese website for Sonic X Shadow Generations features an image that suggests a fourth playable character will be featured in the game. The fourth slot is blank with a “coming soon” listed under it. Many have theorised that the fourth mystery character could be a familiar face such as Tails, Knuckles, Amy or even Silver. Others have speculated that it might be a new classic design for Shadow to match Sonic’s classic design.

Either way, it seems like players will be able to play as more than just Sonic and Shadow in the upcoming game.

Sonic X Shadow Generations debuted some new gameplay at this year’s Summer Game Fest in June, accompanied by an official release date of 25 October 2024. The game’s description reads:

“Shadow the Hedgehog is back and teaming up with Classic and Modern Sonic in Sonic X Shadow Generations, an all-new collection featuring two unique experiences! Play as Shadow the Hedgehog in a brand-new story campaign, and tackle iconic 2D and 3D stages as Classic and Modern Sonic in a newly remastered version of Sonic Generations.”

In other Sonic news, Keanu Reeves is set to voice Shadow in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, appearing alongside Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles.
