Sony is finally bringing two new DualSense controller variants to the market. This being after only the standard white model has been available since launch in November. Both new controllers pack the usual tech inside of them but instead of the white, you will now see a black or red casing on the accessory.
Both the DualSense Midnight Black and the DualSense Cosmic Red controllers will be available globally starting next month. The dates will vary in each region.

Sony detailed how the company managed to get to the controller’s shades of colours saying that they wanted them to represent how we view space through the night sky. The DualSense Cosmic Black controller includes two subtly different shades of black. Whereas the red delivers a striking combination of two different shades of colour.
“Our goal is to always find designs that will surprise and entice our fans, and these new colors are the result of an extensive selection process. We wanted the new controller colors to complement each other, as well as the original DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console, so we designed the colors around the theme of ‘galaxy’ as it felt like a natural progression from the original PS5 and accessories designs.” – Leo Cardoso
“Both Midnight Black and Cosmic Red feature a subtle blue hue, that produces unique shades of red and black. A blue hue is also present in the original DualSense wireless controller colors, so all three colors complement each other nicely. The controller’s button colors and detailing has been tailored to complement the new colors as well.
We hope these new additions will bring further joy and excitement to our fans’ gaming experience.” – Satoshi Aoyagi
We will update you on the local release plans and pricing for these two new controllers. However, according to the US PlayStation Direct Store, the new PS5 DualSense controllers will vary in price. The Midnight Black will retail for $69.99 and the Cosmic Red for $74.99. Not sure why there’s a price difference for the Cosmic Red DualSense controller. Sony plans on releasing both controllers in the US on 11 June and in the UK on 18 June. A local launch will most likely arrive shortly after that.
