Sony Creates Incredible God of War Ragnarok Mural in Hamburg

PlayStation Germany went all out to create one of the most incredible adverts for the latest God of War Ragnarok game. Sony took over a building’s wall and brought to life Kratos and Atreus in ways never seen before. The mural isn’t just your typical painted wall. Instead, this one features lightning effects, 3D ice sculptures, dry ice used to create a misty Midgard and even a logo that reveals itself at certain times.

In a short video uploaded by PlayStation Germany on Youtube, you can get a closer look at the creation of this unique mural. It shows the artists working through various prototypes of the build before kicking off development. You can get a look at how they brought the frozen landscape to life with painted plastic moulds that represent the ice chunks. The artists are also seen drafting Kratos and Atreus with lines before filling in the detail with spray paint.

The mural is then lit up by a few techniques. There are LED strips around the wall that act as lightning strikes. These strips are scattered across the ice and even in the sky. There’s also some blue diffuse lighting that shoots through the ice. Lastly, there’s a projected image that enhances the entire mural. The combination of all the various lighting techniques really helps bring out the details of the mural including Kratos and Atreus. Of course, there’s also a smoke machine that spits out a hazy fog.

I have honestly never seen a 3D mural being created with some incredible detail before. It surely took a few days and a lot of hard work to pull off. Check out the full clip of the God of War Ragnarok mural below.
