Sony shared some new information on the state of the PS5 backwards compatibility. In addition, the company detailed which PS4 games players won’t be able to load on their new PlayStation 5. According to Sony, an overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 games are playable on the new console. These games will also benefit from the PS5’s Game Boost feature which sees them run at a higher or smoother frame rate than before. However, there are some restrictions. Sony claims that some games will not function correctly depending on the title and that users should boot and play the title before investing in add-on content for the game. Only if you are happy with the experience should you spend money on it.

Sony claims users can transfer their PS4 games from an existing console to a PlayStation 5 using a Wi-Fi data transfer. You can also access PlayStation 4 games on the PS5 directly from an external hard drive. When installing a PS4 game on the console, users can simply head into the “Games home” and select the game you want to play. If it is not installed, you can download it and install it. Some games will offer the opportunity to download a portion of the title which is playable before the rest downloads.
