Sony Trademark New Astro Bot Game

Sony Files Astro Bot Trademark – New Game Potentially Incoming

Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a trademark for Astro Bot, suggesting that a new game might be on the way. The lovable PlayStation mascot kicked off the PS5 launch with Astro’s Playroom, a celebration of Sony’s console over the decades that made references to other popular PlayStation mascots and IPs. However, it wasn’t a full-blown game as much as it was an awesome showcase for the DualSense controller but now, there might be a new game cooking and fans are really excited.

As spotted by Gematsu, Sony recently filed two trademarks for Astro Bot in Europe on 25 August. No other information was provided in these trademarks but it could mean that a new game (or games) is in development from Team Asobi, which doubled its staff size after stating that it’s currently working on its biggest and most ambitious game yet.

PS VR2 owners are also hoping for a current-gen port of Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, which launched on the original PlayStation VR and received solid reviews before becoming a fan-favourite VR title in the community. If the new trademark is an indication of anything, fans can hopefully expect a new game to be revealed and it might be sooner rather than later. It’s also unclear if this new Astro Bot game will be another VR title or a traditional platformer, though Sony could really use a few more hits to push the PS VR2.

As for when we can expect this announcement to happen, a report from back in May this year claimed that Sony was planning another big PlayStation event before or in September, though it will reportedly focus more on anticipated upcoming first-party games unlike the previous May event which highlighted several third-party titles and PS VR2. September is right around the corner so we’ll just have to wait and see.
