Sony Interactive Entertainment Appoints New Sole CEO

Sony Interactive Entertainment has named Hideaki Nishino as the new sole CEO of the company following Jim Ryan’s departure from PlayStation. The role was previously shared by both Nishino and current head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst as interim CEOs. Nishino will now serve as the head of SIE starting on 1 April 2025.

Sony released a press release this morning confirming that Hideaki Nishino will take over as CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, replacing previous CEO Kenichiro Yoshida who served in the role since April 2018, succeeding everyone’s favourite corporate boss, Kazuo Hirai. With this move, Nishino now oversees the entire SIE operation while Hulst remains in his position as head of PlayStation Studios.

Nishino said in a recent statement:

“I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds.”

Hopefully Nishino can steer the company back on track after a generation of disappointments when PlayStation decided to shift its attention to live service games (many of which have been cancelled or stuck in limbo at the moment). Most recently, Sony pulled the plug on a live service God of War multiplayer game that was in development at Demon’s Souls remake studio Bluepoint – as far as reports indicate, this was the only project Bluepoint was working on for a few years before its cancellation.
