The anticipated Destiny 2: The Final Shape expansion is only meant to launch next week but ahead of the release, the game’s content was accidentally added to the game a few days early. Players on PS5 were able to force Destiny 2: Lightfall to update to the new expansion version and once done, were given free reign to explore the content.
Players have even been able to play the entire first mission of the new Destiny 2 campaign. In addition, various raid mods, weapons, armour, cosmetic items, echoes and other content have leaked online. One player was even able to stream himself playing through the game’s mission.
According to players, the update glitch essentially unlocked the entirety of The Final Shape expansion. The content was exactly what players will experience next week when they jump into the game.
Of course, I won’t post any content here to avoid spoilers. Keep in mind that X and Reddit are likely going to be flooded with spoilers to be wary as you venture online.
Since the glitch happened, Bungie has taken down the Destiny 2 servers to prevent more players from gaining access to the content. At the same time, players have also been able to gain access to the upcoming Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
This is quite a substantial leak for Sony. Both games were accessed using the same streaming exploit that is quite easy to perform. Users would force the PS5 to update the game to a later build. As a result, it would download pre-released content.
While Destiny 2 can easily be taken offline to prevent further leaks, Elden Ring is going to be a bit tougher to manage.
