Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is a little over a week away from launch and players are gearing up for a second trip into Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalypse as Sam Porter Bridges. In case you needed a refresher on the story of the first game, Sony recently uploaded a six-minute ‘The Story So Far’ recap video to get you up to speed on all the events that happened leading up to the sequel.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will move away from North America and take players to Mexico and Australia this time – gigantic open worlds that players can freely explore as they deliver cargo across the harsh landscapes while avoiding detection from enemies and BTs, or “beached things”, interdimensional beings that roam the environment under “timefall”, weather anomalies where rain rapidly ages all living things under its downpour.
Players take on the role of Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus), a porter tasked with linking a fractured North America (or in the sequel’s case, Mexico and Australia) and bringing them onto the “grid.” The apocalyptic events of a cataclysmic bang known as the Death Stranding left the world divided and without means to socially interact with each other. Considering that the game launched in 2019, one year before the pandemic, it was quite relevant and still is today.
The story description provided on Steam might paint a clearer picture:
“In the future, a mysterious event known as the Death Stranding has opened a doorway between the living and the dead, leading to grotesque creatures from the afterlife roaming the fallen world marred by a desolate society. As Sam Bridges, your mission is to deliver hope to humanity by connecting the last survivors of a decimated America. Can you reunite the shattered world, one step at a time?”
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach launches on 26 June 2025 for PS5. The review embargo for the game is set for 23 June. Watch the story recap video below:
