Sony has quietly raised the price of Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 ahead of the launch of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PS5 and PC. When the remaster launches next month, it will sell for $49,99 with an optional $9,99 upgrade price for owners of the original game. However, if you were holding out on picking up the original game at a discounted price to get the cheaper upgrade, you’re out of luck.
Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 previously cost $19,99 or R449 on the PSN Store but sometime yesterday, Sony updated the price to $39,99 or R749. It seems like the PC version also got a price increase on Steam as well. This is obviously Sony’s way of deterring players from purchasing the original game at the previously discounted price (under its PlayStation Hits label) and simply purchasing the cheaper $9,99 upgrade than spending a full $49,99 on the upcoming remaster.
Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition was given away as a PlayStation Plus game several years ago too, though it’s not yet known if owners of this edition will be able to upgrade at all – something tells us it won’t be an option.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered launches on 31 October 2024 for PS5 and PC, bringing a host of visual improvements to the game to bring it closer to the graphical fidelity of its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. This includes over 10 hours of re-recorded motion capture animations for characters, improved textures and models and more.
Fan reception to the remaster hasn’t been good. The announcement trailer currently has 14K likes to 35K dislikes on YouTube. “They remastered this, but not Bloodborne?” reads one comment, while another said, “PlayStation 5 will forever be known as the console of remasters.” Some gave more passionate responses like, “It baffles me that Sony refuses to port/remaster their PS2 and PS3 catalogue but continues remastering PS4 games that A) are already playable on PS5, and B) no one asked for.”
