Sony has announced a new accessory that turns your standard DualShock 4 into a pro controller. The new “DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment” adds back paddles to the controller and will let users customize their gaming experience using the device’s OLED display.
The attachment will work on any DualShock 4 and plugs into the bottom of the controller into that slot that no one has used before. The OLED display lets users map the two paddles to any button on the controller by simply choosing the paddle and assigning the button they wish to replace it with.
Sony claims users can store up to three different configurations on the attachment and these can be easily swapped around at any time to fit a new genre you might jump into. The attachment also includes a headphone jack so you won’t lose functionality when using the new paddle accessory.
The attachment is a smart move by Sony to allow everyone access to a customisable controller without charging them R3,999. Microsoft’s Elite Controller is currently one of the most expensive on the market. Sure it offers a range of more features compared to this DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment, but a simple additional paddle is often what one needs to up their game.
According to Sony, the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment will be available starting on 14 February 2020 for €29.99. We have reached out to the local representatives to find out if we will be receiving this device and what the price could be.
For Sony to release a device like this so late into the PS4 lifecycle is quite strange. Perhaps this device will support the DualShock 5 right out of the box too?
