Sony has confirmed that a major PlayStation announcement is expected later this month in May. While the company has yet to officially announce a May showcase event, rumours have been circling online regarding the PlayStation Showcase set to take place before the end of the month. Sony has now hinted that is the case.
During its annual finance earnings report, the company told investors that “later this month” they will learn more about the long-term vision for Sony Group and the “essential role SEI plays in that vision”.
It continued to state that FY24 marks the “start of the Mid-Range Plan period for Sony Group in which we will set the course for substantial growth”.
This statement all but confirms a possible PlayStation State of Play for later this month. We will likely see the unveiling of the PlayStation 5 Pro during this event as Sony gears up to launch the super-powered PS5 console later this year.
Sony will have to announce some new games at least. The company has already confirmed that “no major first-party games are planned to launch before April 2025”. So hopefully, the showcase plays host to some new IP announcements and news.
At the moment, 2024 is looking pretty bleak for exclusives across the board with Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony all putting plans on the burner for a more exciting 2025. Sony’s PlayStation Showcase will likely share news for future titles in 2024 and beyond.
