Sony Updates Social Media Images Ahead of Rumoured August PS5 Event

We know that while every other game developer and company celebrate June and July as the months for new announcements, Sony doesn’t. The company has shied away from announcing anything major during the “E3” months for a few years now and have shifted towards hosting its own private reveal events later down the line. Well, it is almost halfway through August and the PS5 event rumours are all starting to swirl around the internet. The latest seems to be the possibility of a stream taking place on 19 August.

While at first, this seemed to be a long stretch, the recent Call of Duty: Vanguard leak also pointed to a reveal date on the same day. According to multiple sources, Call of Duty: Vanguard will be one of the big games shown off during a stream on 19 August. This has now aligned with previous rumours of Sony’s State of Play taking place on the same day.

Sony has also sneakily changed its cover images for all its social media platforms to a classic PlayStation logo artwork. In the past few weeks, these images played host to Ghost of Tsushima, Genshin Impact and most recently, Apex Legends. However, instead of hosting a game on the header, they now have the PlayStation symbols.

These social media takeovers usually happen around a big event. Keep in mind that Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is also a week away from release. You would think Sony would be marketing the game’s launch on these images? That is not the case.

While a 19 August PS5 event has not been confirmed by Sony, multiple insiders say it is happening. So much so that they claim the company is set to announce the stream today sometime. As all rumours go, don’t bank on it happening until you see it. There’s also talk of the stream moving to September. However, given Sony has multiple games releasing next month, it wouldn’t make sense to host it during this big release month.

When Sony does announce the stream, we will share the news. Until then, just pretend nothing is happening.
