A new report has popped up online that suggests Sony is working on multiple new PlayStation hardware projects. The most ready-to-launch hardware is seemingly the new PS5 console that supports a detachable disc drive. We have reported on this hardware multiple times now. However, according to new sources, Sony is also working on a PlayStation handheld device as well as the PS5 Pro.
First off we have the PS5 chassis “D”. According to previous reports, this new PS5 console is described as the “slim” model. Sony is reportedly removing the disc drive from all PS5 Slim consoles going forward and will opt to sell a separate disc attachment which gamers can pick up.

This disc drive is powered by the new additional USB C port at the back of the PS5 Slim. Sony has added a new port to the console to keep the front USB C port available for the PS VR2 unit. This PS5 Slim is reportedly set to launch by the end of 2023.
Next up is the new PlayStation handheld device under the codename “Q-Lite”. According to sources, this new hardware aims to be a portable gaming device which requires a PS5 to function. Reports claim that the Q-Lite is not a cloud-based handheld gaming device. Instead, it uses the PS5 Remote Play feature in order to stream games and content to it.
The Q-Lite features a 1080p 60FPS display. What panel design isn’t clear yet. The device will require a constant internet connection to function. Sony is designing the handheld to look like a DualSense Controller. It boasts adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Other buttons include a volume rocker, audio jack input and the usual standard buttons.
According to the reports, the Q-Lite handheld is set to launch before the rumoured PS5 Pro. Sony is scheduling this hardware for early 2024. In addition, the rumoured PS5 Pro console is scheduled for holiday 2024.
Keep in mind that all these reports are sourced from insiders who claim to have knowledge of the new hardware. At the moment, virtually nothing is known about the PS5 Pro.
