Sophie Turner in The Running to Play Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Show

Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner is in the running to play Lara Croft in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider TV show from Amazon. Aside from Turner, Bohemian Rhapsody actress Lucy Boynton is also testing for the role. It won’t be long before Amazon makes a decision on the casting.

As reported by Deadline, Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton are currently testing for the role of Lara Croft in Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider TV show. Turner is best known for playing Sansa Stark on HBO’s mega-hit series Game of Thrones, while Boynton previously starred in Murder on the Orient Express and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Deadline says there are also other actresses on the short list for Lara Croft like Emma Corrin (Deadpool and Wolverine, The Crown) and Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, Blade Runner 2049), but neither of them are testing, meaning it will probably come down to either Turner or Boynton. We’ll keep you updated on who eventually lands the role.

The Tomb Raider TV show on Amazon is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the writer/producer behind Killing Eve and Fleabag. It’s unclear if the adaptation will follow 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot storyline (much like the 2018 live-action movie starring Alicia Vikander) or adapt the earlier iterations of the character and her adventures.

Waller-Bridge spoke about her excitement in adapting the Tomb Raider IP, stating:

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

As of writing, the live-action series has yet to receive a release date or when filming will commence but we’ll surely hear more about that soon.
