Nintendo’s new news app, Nintendo Today!, is now available for iOS and Android, but sadly, South Africans won’t be able to download it. The app launched globally last night on both platforms, and it seems that right now, visiting the App Store or Google Play Store in South Africa, you can’t find it at all.
To make matters worse, if you click on a link to take you to the storefronts, users are welcomed to the infamous “This app is currently not available in your country or region” error.
It seems that Nintendo just didn’t include South Africa on the list of countries that would get this cool new app. Even the official website lists the available locations, which include over 40 countries, and we’re not on the list.
The app isn’t such a big deal right now as Nintendo plans on using the Nintendo Today! app as a platform to share news and content updates for the Switch 2 console. It aims to be a place where gamers can catch up on major announcements regarding games and the console while at the same time enjoying content shared on topics. Some of this content includes concept art, trailers, developer videos, and more.
At the moment, there seems to be no plan to roll out the Nintendo Today! app in South Africa. If you want the app, you’ll need to find the APK on Android and create a different Apple ID for iOS.
This is not the first time Nintendo has dropped the ball with local support for apps and games. The company has in the past left fans in the dark when it comes to game apps like Pokémon Home, Pokémon Café Mix, and Pokémon Masters. It isn’t clear exactly why the app didn’t launch in the country.
If you missed the news, yesterday Nintendo hosted a game-packed Direct with 30 announcements. The company debuted new trailers for Pokémon: Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. In addition, Nintendo showcased the Nintendo Today! app and a new Virtual Game Card feature.
