If you’re looking for something new to play and want to support South African game development, Hadley’s Run: A Starship Saga is now available on Steam. The game has been developed by Unsigned Double Collective and is inspired by classic arcade games. The game is a roguelite twin-stick space shooter.
In Hadley’s Run: A Starship Saga, players take on the role of Hadley Orah, a pilot of a mining craft from the South African space colony. After accidentally teleporting yourself to a distant galaxy, Hadley finds himself stranded and roped into an intergalactic battle against the DraadMek species. Not only must he find his way back home but also try stop the DraadMek from taking over the galaxy… no pressure.
Unsigned Double Collective says Hadley’s Run: A Starship Saga is built for everyone but South Africans will especially enjoy all the local throwbacks throughout the game. I spotted a few in the gameplay trailer
The gameplay loop plays out like a rogue-lite with each death forcing you to restart your trip with upgrades discovered from your previous run. With over 80 upgrades available, each trip offers a new approach to combat and a unique playstyle to master.
Hadley’s Run: A Starship Saga is R199 and can now be bought on Steam. R200 is not a lot to ask to help support local game development. There’s also a digital soundtrack for R100. The music is pretty cool in the game, I won’t lie. According to the dev team, the game took one year to make and was built by four passionate South Africans.
