South African internet users can rest easy today knowing that the broken WACS cable, which has caused major internet issues over the past week, has now been repaired. TENET posted the news of the repair this morning stating that they had begun to see the recovery of the SA links. While it may take a few hours before local users notice the improvements, this is a great sign. Afrihost then confirmed the successful repairs in a tweet claiming their transit was back to normal and that they will be rerouting traffic over the course of the day to deliver stable performance.

This latest WACS cable break was the second major breakage in the past few months. Earlier this year, another major break took place off the coast of Angola which lasted over a month. Hopefully, we don’t suffer any more issues during the South African lockdown as for most people, the internet is the only way they are staying sane.
