For those hoping for an exciting new price point for the PlayStation VR2 headset, I am sorry to say that isn’t happening. After PlayStation announced the global price drop last week, it seems our local market price is simply going back down to what it originally launched at.
The PlayStation VR2 launched in February 2023 at the recommended retail price of R13,499. However, just a few months later in August 2023, the hardware saw a price hike up to R15,499. This is where is sat since (bar the odd retail special here and there).
PS VR2 will now go back down to R13,499 following the recent global price drop. PlayStation shared its excitement in a press release saying:
For those who have been waiting for the opportunity to jump into PlayStation VR2 and experience what this generation’s innovative virtual reality system has to offer, we are happy to share we’re reducing the recommended retail price (RRP) of PS VR2. The new PS VR2 price is R13 499.99 (recommended retail price) and includes the PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controller, and stereo headphones.
Keep in mind that you can easily import the PS VR2 for around R10,700 from Amazon UK. This includes shipping, handling and import tax. So if you’re looking for one, maybe pick it up there instead.
PS VR2 now supports PC with the help of an extra PC adapter. So the headset has some great extended functionality. The adapter, which is sold separately for R1,499, unlocks the ability to use PS VR2 on Steam. This lets you jump into PC VR games such as Half-Life: Alyx, Blade and Sorcery and Fallout 4 VR.
