If you have purchased a PS5 or Xbox Series X in the past two months then you most likely struggled to place the hardware on your TV stand. You see, unlike past consoles, which were reasonably sized and managed to fit into all sorts of holes, the Xbox Series X and PS5 are bigger and thicker. This means that simply taking that PS4 Pro out of the counter and putting the PS5 in its place was not as easy as you thought. I, for one, had to move my TV right to the edge of the counter and place both consoles on the left-hand side next to it. The TV’s border is even hanging off the edge but it works.
Given that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are the two biggest consoles in modern history, furniture store IKEA in the United States has a solution for people who purchase TV stands and own either one of these consoles. The company made physical sizing guides in the form of boxes which customers can place around the furniture to kind of get an idea on how their setup will look at home.
The boxes are exact replicas of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. The PS5 box has the two white-collar flaps on the outside which need to be taken into consideration when managing your space. The boxes even include some text which gamers may find funny. They read;
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#53FF33″ class=”” size=”21″]”Which IKEA media storage unit will be able to fit my new, meme-ishly oversize, gaming console?” [/perfectpullquote]
The boxes will come in handy for those who don’t want to slog their actual consoles to the store in order to see how they fit into their new media unit. Who does that? I don’t know. IKEA are clearly onto something. I think that all retailers who sell TV/media units should have a couple of these boxes handy for new or upcoming console adopters. I am sure many gamers out there purchased new furniture, got home and realized their new console did not fit all that well into the unit. Honestly, seeing the PS5 and Xbox Series X online does not do the sizes of these consoles justice.
