Luvo is now available in South Africa. The new local jobs platform is very similar to Task Rabbit, where users can post their offered services on the app, and people looking to get the odd job done can sign up to complete them. South Africans can also list what they need done, and those around you will offer help where possible – all of this is done for payment, of course.
Luvo offers a simple way to find local odd jobs and get work if you’re looking for the odd job. The service is limited in certain regards. You can’t, of course, post anything illegal, offensive, or anything that goes against the platform’s Terms of Service.
Payment for jobs can be done privately or through the Luvo app. You’ll need to be verified in order to respond to jobs and post them too. All of this is done fairly easily. I signed up myself, got the confirmation email, followed the link, entered some details, and uploaded a profile image. The verification process to get access to the app took a few minutes.
However, becoming a Luvo Pro member is a different process. This will give you access to enhanced visibility for jobs, payment through the app, and other features. It seems becoming a Luvo Pro user might be a requirement to make the most out of the app, whether you’re posting jobs or accepting them. It does require uploading a copy of your ID, proof of address, and sharing a video of yourself.
Of course, Luvo is all community-driven. As a result, it relies on people posting jobs and requesting them in and around your area. It works in a 40km radius, so all the content you’ll see is relevant to where you are based.
The platform also runs off a Credits system where posting a job costs credits. You get a few credits by signing up to the service, watching ads, and purchasing them in-app. There’s also a referral program where you can earn credits by getting friends and family members to sign up using your code. Mine is J0ZKA – just saying.
It will be interesting to see how Luvo takes off in South Africa. Hopefully, more users jump on board and start sharing work and getting the odd job from the platform. You can download Luvo now on Android through the Google Play Store and iOS through the App Store. Also, visit the website here for more information on Luvo.
