The first part will now also release just a month ahead of Sony’s Madame Web film, which has a release date of 7 July 2023. Dakota Johnson is reportedly set to star as the titular character.

Additionally, Sony announced that The Equalizer 3, which will once again star Denzel Washington, will now arrive on 1 September 2023.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse originally released in late 2018 to glowing reviews, with many praising its gripping story, striking comic book-style animation and fast pace. The film has gone on to appear on several best comic book films of all time lists and is widely considered by fans to be the best Spider-Man film ever made.

The sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, will follow a slightly older Miles Morales as he journeys through the multiverse, encountering several variants of friends, allies and foes.

The popularity of the original film and Insomniac Games’ take on the character with the PlayStation exclusive game Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales catapulted the comic book hero to the mainstream spotlight. Current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland even suggested that Marvel Studios shift their attention to introducing Miles into the MCU in place of Peter Parker.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One releases on 2 June 2023. Part Two will release on 29 March 2024.
