Current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has stated that he doesn’t want to play the character forever, and instead feels like the mantle should be passed onto the next Spider-Man, Miles Morales, in the MCU. However, Sony executives still want Holland to continue playing Spider-Man despite the actor’s reluctance.
In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal said that she hopes Tom Holland would rethink continuing to play the iconic Marvel character. However, Holland has expressed his exhaustion from the role, and seemingly wants to move onto other films as age continues to be a factor.

Holland stated that it was time for him to move on, and it might be wise for Marvel to shift Spider-Man towards the other popular iteration of the character, Miles Morales, instead:
“Maybe it’s time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong. It’s been a busy few years, too. Since I got cast as Spider-Man, I haven’t really taken a break.”
Holland’s contract will end with the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, though Pascal hopes that the actor will stick around. “I’ve talked to him about doing, like, 100 more,” Pascal said. “I’m never going to make Spider-Man movies without him. Are you kidding me?”
Spider-Man’s live-action films have always placed Peter Parker as the iconic web-slinger, but just last decade, the new Spider-Man Miles Morales exploded into popularity thanks to Sony’s acclaimed animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse as well as Insomniac Games’ PlayStation exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It seems like the perfect time for Peter to pass the mantle onto Miles, but it remains to be seen if that will actually happen in No Way Home or a future instalment.
Spider-Man: No Way Home releases on 17 December 2021 exclusively in cinemas.
