Marvel Spider-Man Far From Home was originally set to open on 5 November 2021. The film is now releasing on 17 Dember 2021. Disney is pushing back the new Star Wars trilogy too. The first film will debut on 22 December 2023. The second on 19 December 2025 and the last one on 17 December 2027.
As for Avatar 2. The film is releasing on 16 December 2022. Avatar 3 on 20 December 2024. In addition, Avatar 4 lands in cinemas on 18 December 2026 and Avatar 5 on 22 December 2028. Damn, that is a lot of Avatar movies.
This list of new delays joins the likes of 007 No Time to Die, Tenet, A Quiet Place: Part II, Black Widow, Pixar’s Soul and many more. Disney recently delayed Mulan indefinitely meaning it may not release this year at all. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which was originally set to release on 17 July is also without a release date. Many believe the film would debut on HBO Max via streaming. However, AT&T CEO John Stankey reaffirmed that Tenet will absolutely go to theatres.
Of course, we have this COVID-19 pandemic going on which is causing havoc for the film and television industry. With cinemas closed worldwide, films cannot release to the public. This has forced studios to delay film releases and even postpone filming on new projects such as the Uncharted film. So far, 2020 is a write-off for cinematic releases.
