Splitgate 2 Announced For Current and Old-Gen Consoles and PC

1047 Games plans to launch Splitgate 2 in 2025. The sequel to the 2019 shooter with portals has been announced for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

The studio wanted to build a game that “lasts a decade or more” so there are big hopes for this upcoming shooter. 1047 Games says the original Splitgate was a game they loved but not the game of their dreams. The sequel is now that game. 1047 CEO Ian Proulx says:

“I truly believe Splitgate 2 is the game I dreamed of making when Nicholas Bagamian and I got together in a Stanford dorm and decided to put portals in a shooter.”

Like the original game, Splitgate 2 will be a free-to-play 4v4 multiplayer shooter. The gameplay incorporates portals that players can use to whisk themselves from one point of the map to the other. The sequel also features three factions – Aeros are all about speed, Meridian are manipulators of time and Sabrask offers raw power.

The Steam page is already live for Splitgate 2 so you can wishlist the game in the meantime. Studio 1047 says the game will include some “seriously sick character skins and weapons” which will “look better than anything from the first game”.

At the moment, the 2025 release date only targets PS5 and PS4 (yes, it is coming to the PS4 too). It will eventually launch on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store as well as Xbox. We don’t know yet if these platforms will get the game later than the PS4 and PS5.

1047 Games has released an iOS and Android Splitgate 2 companion app in the meantime where players can read digital comics. These comics aim to flesh out the series’ backstory and characters.

The original Splitgate did quite well at launch. The game was so popular back in 2021 that it suffered from major server downtime and was even delayed. The long waiting times to get into matches were also an issue. However, the player base has since dwindled. It sees less than 500 players on a daily basis. Let’s hope the sequel can make as big of an impact as the studio hopes.
